President’s Report September 2025

From The Flight Deck

Our September committee meeting took place as planned with a last minute change of venue and we managed to do the business even without our usual guidance from Spot (but a good briefing prior to his departure). Ross stepped in to take the minutes, thanks Ross.  Another thanks to Ross for the new Presidents Board in our lounge, stunning job Ross, looks like it has been there forever.

Russ Cross reported on possible events in the coming months which sound interesting and informative.  Kevin is organising a Brevet Club team to compete in this years Officers’ Club Leslie Hills Competition Shield 2025 pistol shoot which will be a blast into the past for some of us.

The committee happily approved the new memberships for Bill Lamb and Evan Morgan.  For several reasons we have had smattering of new members recently and we hope we can keep the momentum going.

Double Tree lunch 8th October, let’s hope we have a good turnout.  Note the revup from Graham below, if you haven’t booked do it soon.

This year’s Battle of Britain commemoration had a certain poignancy with the remembrance of the loss of our Dakota in September 1945.

Included is the social programme through to January 2027 for your diary

Membership:

Do you know anyone who is eligible to become a member of the Brevet Club?  If so have a chat to them.  Also if there are members that haven’t attended our meetings recently …. Give them a call, perhaps they have been unwell and would appreciate your making contact with them.

Interesting History:

Try this! Google “History Briefs,” then the person that you would like to know more about eg Keith Park.  You will find it most interesting.

A couple of funnies:

Great truths about growing old:

  • Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional
  • You’re getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster
  • It’s frustrating when you know all the answers, but nobody bothers to ask you the questions
  • Time may be a great healer, but it’s a lousy beautician

The four stages of life:

  • You believe in Santa Claus
  • You don’t believe in Santa Claus
  • You are Santa Claus
  • You look like Santa Claus

Is Eternal Vigilance
