Our social activities have been a bit up and down for the last year or so and hopefully we can make the future a bit more stable. It would be really great to draw up the plan for the year and not DEVIATE! However, the practicality is such that a bit of flexibility now and then may be needed. Time was that if changes were made there would be a bit of quid pro quo and we feel that recently the museum has been a bit fast and loose with changes and we have expressed our concern. Pin the enclosed programme wherever you keep such things and we will review our performance in a year or so.
This is our first newsletter since our AGM and our members have decided to stay with the status quo and leave our administration appointments as they are. We appreciate your confidence in us.
If you haven’t seen our refurbished lounge, I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised, it looks very smart with new décor and carpet. Members of the committee have had a serious clean out of the back room making things more manageable.
Our recent hosting of the meet and greet for the 36 Aircrew Course reunion was well received by all. On a personal note I was delighted to catch up with my flying instructor Bruce Johnston and was then devastated to learn of his passing.
The gathering to celebrate the life of Hadyn Clarke at the old Wigram Mess attended by Brevet Club members, the model aero club team, and guides from the museum was a grand event. I mentioned the membership requirements and we were delighted to discover that not only did Hadyn have his pilot’s brevet, he also qualified as a member as a signaller and gunner, definitely an unusual combo, but not so much perhaps in the RAF and the time.
Our next luncheon will be at the Chateau on the Park on September 2nd, please advise and pay Kevin and Diann. The next lunch after will be October 14th in our Brevet Lounge and as guests we will have Vietnam Vets Reunion.

President
A group of men, all aged 40, discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the waitresses there were gorgeous.
Ten years later, at age 50, the friends once again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the food and service was good and the wine selection was excellent.
Ten years later, at age 60, the friends again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they could dine in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.
Ten years later, at age 70, the friends discussed where they would meet for lunch. Finally they decided that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had an elevator.
Ten years later, at age 80, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they had never been there before.
All the crazy stuff happening in the big wide world reminds me of a 1970’s Time Magazine front page showing a log floating in a river with a bunch of ants (world leaders) each of which had a paddle in the water and each claimed they were the one successfully steering the log. The observation was however that the log was simply following the current.
Nothing much has changed in 50 years.
